The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission recently accepted and occupied their newly renovated and expanded “Green” Central Administration Building. In total, the facility is approximately 160,000 GSF and will serve as the central administrative complex for the state. The building contains both office spaces and more specialized functions such as document printing and reproduction, mail sorting, dining, a highway operations/communications center and a large centralized data center.
As a representative of the Owner, SBS provided guidance and management for the development of the design intent, building program, project budget, design and construction management team contracts and the contracting strategy to be employed. During construction SBS acted as the Commissioning Agent for the complex mechanical and electrical systems as well as providing assistance in the overall project punch list management and contractor /designer closeout. Systems included three 250-ton electric centrifugal chillers, a three-cell evaporative cooling tower, an emergency generator, critical power systems, and an under floor air distribution system. Upon project completion SBS was engaged to manage the successful LEED Certification effort with the U.S. Green Building Council.
