Bloomfield High School & Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School

The Bloomfield Public School District retained SBS to provide comprehensive commissioning services during the design, construction and post construction of the High School and the Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School.

Bloomfield High School was constructed in 1956 with subsequent additions and/or renovations in the 1960’s, ‘70’s, and most recently, in 2000.  The plans for this project started in 2008.  The new Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School is the first interdistrict magnet school built in Connecticut that provides full-day instruction for children ages 3-5 years. The school’s partner-in-curriculum is the local 4-H Education Center at the historic Auer Farm. Enrollment for the Wintonbury School is projected at 336 students.

As commissioning agent for these projects, SBS served as an objective advocate of the Bloomfield School Building Committee, overseeing and coordinating the commissioning process, and presenting final recommendations to the Committee regarding performance of the commissioned building systems.

During the overall design stage, SBS worked in conjunction with the project design teams through the design process and reviewed the design to ensure that it met the Bloomfield School Building Committee’s objectives.  Also during this phase, SBS developed detailed commissioning specifications.  During construction, SBS coordinated the execution of a testing plan, which included observing and documenting systems’ installation and performance to ensure that the systems were functioning in accordance with the owner’s project requirements and the contract documents.
