Fishers Island School
Fishers Island, NY
With the opening of the Fishers Island Community Center in 1998, the Fishers Island School acquired the neighboring bowling alley for school use. After discussion about possible uses for this building, the Board of Education and Administration decided to undertake a comprehensive study of the space and maintenance needs of the School to help determine the best possible use of the bowling alley. In February, 2009, Fishers Island School retained Strategic Building Solutions (SBS) to develop a comprehensive Facilities Strategic Plan for the existing school and bowling alley.
Facilities inspections were conducted in March of 2009 by SBS' professional architects, engineers, and project managers, experienced in the development of similar plans at educational institutions throughout the country. The planning process was composed of four distinct, yet inter-related planning initiatives: Facilities Conditions Assessment, Space Quantification Analysis, Enrollment Impact Analysis, and Program Modernization Planning. Each of these planning components addressed a particular area of concentration, culminating in the development of an integrated and comprehensive facilities strategic plan.
This Facilities Strategic Plan included the development of three planning scenarios of determined to best meet the educational needs of the School, address the priority of deferred maintenance issues, and recognize the fiscal reality of the community.
